Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Geotechnical Lab Manager for our Edmonton, AB geotechnical laboratory, which provides conventional and advanced field and laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Managing clients and projects, including communicating with internal and external clients regarding scope of services and schedule.

  • Actively take part in business development and collaboration efforts which may include connecting with both internal, and external clients, preparing proposals, attending client meetings as required. The business development efforts will be required to support the materials testing and the lab testing service offerings

  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment, including nuclear density gauges

  • Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL and ISO

  • Hire, train, and supervise laboratory and field technicians/technologists

  • Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed

  • Prepare proposals for laboratory and field services

  • Perform quality control reviews of laboratory and field results, and issue final reports

  • Promote safe work practices for all laboratory and field activities

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Having previous experience as a manager in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required

  • Current registration with ASET or APEGA and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T., P.Tech.(Eng.), or P.Eng

  • Have experience with laboratory soil, concrete and asphalt testing procedures

  • Have experience managing materials testing and construction field review projects

  • Experience with AT (Alberta Transportation) projects and associated field and laboratory testing procedures would be a strong asset

  • CCIL Certification for soils, concrete and asphalt would be and asset

  • Have knowledge of soil sampling techniques and construction methodology

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities

  • Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently

  • Maintain a doer-seller mindset

  • Maintain a positive and a problem-solving attitude

Education and Experience

Hold a technician/technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university.

Minimum 8 years’ prior experience in geotechnical laboratory and field testing.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
