Your Opportunity
An opportunity exists in Stantec's Waterloo or Markham, ON office for a highly motivated Intermediate Designer/EIT to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on industrial projects. As an Intermediate designer, you will work with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.
Your Key Responsibilities
Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials related to buildings design.
Performs Revit design for the mechanical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs.
Works with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer
Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer.
Performs basic calculations to analyze and design individual building mechanical system components, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical process systems.
Utilize company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software for design and equipment selection
Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
Adhere to and support Stantec’s safety culture.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Diploma in Buildings Design, preferably mechanical (Designer), a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (EIT), or equivalent
Excellent understanding of Revit and AutoCad, and the use of these programs as a drafting/design tool
Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers.
Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.
Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD and experience with HAP.
Good verbal communication and soft skills.
Education and Experience
Diploma in Buildings Design, preferably mechanical (Designer), a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (EIT), or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of consulting engineering experience in the buildings industry.
Experience in mechanical design for municipal, provincial, federal, healthcare, commercial, nuclear, and educational clients is considered an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
